I am directed by the Local Government Board to advert to Mr Lucas's letter of the 17th ultimo, (No. 35252/1901) with reference to a communication addressed to Mr. Secretary Chamberlain by the Governor of Hong Kong with respect to the necessity for the appointment of an additional Medical Officer to assist the present Port Officer in carrying out the new quarantine rules for that Colony, and enclosing copy of a statement by the Acting Principal Civil Medical Officer with regard to the measures of quarantine applied in the Port, and I am to forward to be laid before Mr Secretary Chamberlain the enclosed copy of a Memorandum on the subject of these communications by the Board's Medical Officer.
